Why Upgrade?

Like PC Software, manufacturers improve & patch the firmware in your mobile phone.  These patches improve the phones performance and correct bugs.

For example: Nokia N70's have Bluetooth problems in most early software versions, and loose connection intermittently.  A new firmware upgrade will fix this.

How do I Check My Current Firmware Version?

Press *#0000# on your nokia to view your current firmware version.

Disclaimer : This process is 100% safe, but I am not to be held responsible if anything at all happens. Read other tutorials available on the net before starting

Tried flashing with FAR+SEFP then try this. Even something happens to the phone do not worry u can always flash back. That’s what I found with my experimentation.
So let’s start. U can always flash back to K750 if u have the right firmware.

W800 has types CID36 only, but K750 is available in two CID36 & CID49
Remove SIM and memory card for the entire procedure.
Watch keenly on the messages shown in the software window (XS++).
Do not let your phone turn ON at any point of time. Flashing takes place only when phone is switched OFF. U will see ur CID urself don’t worry now.


Before u start
1. A phone needs two things FLASH and MAIN. These are the operating system for ur phone. The files for any of the models can be found fromwww.topsony.com. But u need registration. The FLASH file will be something like W800_R1BC002_FS_EMEA6.bin and MAIN something like W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA.bin.
2. EMEA indicates the software type and the above supports for India tested by myself. For others u will have to download others like (W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA_RED49 & W800_R1BC002_FS_EMEA2)
3. W800 stands for the mobile model for which the software is and R1BC002 is the type of FIRMWARE (Something like software version).

Unpack the rar file using WinRAR.

The package includes:

XS++: This program is used to flash you phone’s firmware. This also lets you check your CID number.

Gslide: This program converts W800 CID36 firmware to CID49, to make the firmware compatible to K750 CID49 phones. CID36 users need not use this.

W800 Firmware: Your Main and File System files. Your W800’s operating system files.

USB Flash Driver: The driver you need to enable your phone for flashing through USB cable. These drivers are NOT (I repeat NOT) the same ones you get on K750 PC suite CD



Flashing should be done in this order
1) Flash FS
2) Customize FS
3) Flash MAIN
Because in XS++ the flashing has to be done in following order only because of a bug.



STEP1: Installing USB Flash Driver.

Turn off your phone. Remove SIM and memory card, and re-insert battery. Do not turn ON.

Inside K750toW800 folder, goto XS++ folder and open the program. now click START. While pressing and holding the ‘c’ button on your phone’s keypad, insert USB cable. Windows will detect a new hardware and ‘Install new hardware’ wizard pops up. Release the ‘c’ button. In the wizard, click ‘no, not at this time’ and next. Choose to install from a specified location and click next. Under ‘search for the best drivers to install’, check ‘include this location in the search’. Under ‘browse’, choose the path to the unpacked folder you downloaded and select the folder USB Flash Driver. Now click next and let the windows install the driver.

After installing the driver, close XS++ and disconnect phone and turn it off in case it has switched on. Remove battery for 2 seconds and re-insert it (to refresh your phone). (Removing and re-inserting is usually required once u disconnect in any step)
Now your phone is ready to be flashed.

CHECKING CID NUMBER

Again open XS++, click START, and insert cable while pressing ‘c’ the same way as before. Your fone gets detected and on the left side of the screen, you get the detailed info of your phone including the EROM CID number.

If you have CID 36, then goto STEP2 and go directly to STEP3. Do not close XS++ or unplug your fone.

STEP2:

Now, you know you have a CID49. So the CID36 firmware has to be converted to CID49.
A. Open Gslide. for flashfile, click ‘…’ and select the file named ‘W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA.bin’ inside the W800 Firmware folder. Inside ‘output’ type in the path… C:\MAINFLASH.bin. Now click ‘Process’.

B. After sliding process is completed, again click ‘…’ for flashfile and select file ‘W800_R1BC002_FS_EMEA6.bin’ inside the same folder. Under output type in C:\FSFLASH.bin and hit process. Close the whole program after sliding completes.

Now there will be 2 files in C:\ drive using Gslide. MAINFLASH.bin and FSFLASH.bin

STEP3: Flashing FS.

• For CID36: Your phone is already detected by XS++. Under Select Firmware, check Flash File System, and then click ’…’ , now select the file ‘W800_R1BC002_FS_EMEA6.bin’ inside W800 Firmware folder. Hit flash… the flashing process is now initiated. After completion of 291 blocks, it will say either ‘done flashing’ or hang at ‘finishing flash’. Don’t worry about it. Close the program and unplug phone. Again take-out and reinsert battery to refresh. Goto STEP4.

• For CID49: Inside XS++, Under Select Firmware, check Flash File System, and then click ’…’ , now select the file ‘FSFLASH.bin’ in the C:\ drive which we generated from Gslide. Hit flash to start flashing process. After completion of 291 blocks, it will say either ‘done flashing’ or hang at ‘finishing flash’. Don’t worry about it. Close the program and unplug phone. Again take-out and reinsert battery to refresh.

STEP4: Customizing FS.

Common for CID36 and CID49: Again open XS++ and connect the phone same way as we did before. Now check Customize File System and then select phone model ‘W800’, select CDA and region ‘EMEA_6(CDA102430/6)’. Hit Flash. It will ask you whether you want to use ‘breakin’ or ‘brute-force’. Click ‘yes’ for breakin and strictly follow instructions on the left side of the screen. It will ask you to connect and re-connect phone 2-3 times by press and hold ‘c’ method. Do not panic at any point here, just follow the instructions carefully on the left. At the point when it says ‘FS activation’, wait for 3 minutes. After completion, close XS++ and unplug fone. Refresh by re-inserting battery.

STEP5: Flashing MAIN.

• For CID36: Open XS++ and again connect your phone the same way. Under Select Firmware, check Flash Main, and then click ’…’ , now select the file ‘W800_R1BC002_MAIN_EU_EMEA.bin’ inside W800 Firmware folder. Hit flash… the flashing process is now initiated. After completion of 291 blocks, it will say either ‘done flashing’ or hang at ‘finishing flash’. Unplug your phone and close XS++.

• For CID49: Open XS++ and again connect your phone the same way. Under Select Firmware, check Flash Main, and then click ’…’ , now select the file ‘MAINFLASH.bin’ in the C:\ drive which we generated from Gslide. Hit flash… the flashing process is now initiated. After completion of 291 blocks, it will say either ‘done flashing’ or hang at ‘finishing flash’. Unplug your phone and close XS++.

STEP6:

Now, insert your SIM and memory card and turn on the phone, wait for sometime as the phone takes time loading from a brand new firmware. It will say phone staring don’t panic it will take some time as the new software has to be initiated.

NOTE: EU4 files won’t work in India the phone flashes fine and starts but the network is not detected. It says configuration error. As far as I know EMEA6 is needed in India. For other countries a little search can be done.

If you already own the Nokia N73, you can update the firmware to the Music Edition by using the Nokia Software Update with a little trick. Retailers are just receiving the Nokia N73 Music Edition as this how-to is published, but you do not have to buy the new Nokia N73 Music Edition to take advantage of the new features. Read on to find out how to update the firmware.

Before you decide to update your Nokia N73 to the Music Edition, know that this may void your warranty and you run the risk of breaking your phone, like some people. Is it worth taking the risk? Find out first what to expect in the new Nokia N73 Music Edition (screenshots by mukushu):

Now that you’ve seen how the Nokia N73 Music Edition differs from the standard Nokia N73, do you still want to do it? If so, this is how to update the firmware:

Download and install: Nemesis Service Suite and the latest Nokia Software Update.

1. Connect your phone and wait for Windows to install the drivers.
2. Open Nemesis Service Suite and click “Scan for new device” on the right-upper part of the window
3. Click on the icon “Phone info”
4. Click on “Scan”
5. Change the product code to 0539343 and mark the case “Enable”.
6. Press “Write”, and your phone’s product code will be changed (you might think that nothing happened, because the phone   is still in normal mode, and the changing of the product code only takes a couple of seconds, but don’t worry, the product code changed !).
7. Close Nemesis Service Suite and run the Nokia Software Update.
8. Make sure not to touch the cable or the phone while your phone is updating or else you will break it!
9. That’s it! When you restart your phone, it should now be the Nokia N73 Music Edition!

1. this procedure is very risky.
2. the product code will change your phone to english/chinese variant.
3. there is no step on how to downgrade the phone back to the classic version (but there is a way by flashing it using phoenix. i don't have the procedure for it yet.)

IF EVER YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE RISKS, GO AHEAD AND UPGRADE... here are some tips.

1. your phone will go dead (turn off automatically) during the update process.
2. once the update process is complete, DO NOT remove the cable connecting your phone yet. (even if the loading bar on the nokia software upgrade is complete)
3. wait for the phone to revive itself.

if you are hesitant to do the update process, DON'T DO THIS PROCEDURE.

i decided to take the risk and now i have a N73 Music Edition, haven't changed the casing though, white looks nice.  

Increase Phone Memory by 5MB for s60v3

Steps:
1. Hack your phone..Disable Plat security by CapsOff
2. Go to C:/private/102072c4 folder You will find a file named "reserved " of size 4.76MB
3. Delete it (Dont hesitate)
4. Congrats you've recovered ~5MB memory
5. CapsOn

why we Kicking this file out?

This reserved file is for FOTA (firmware over the air), and we wont need it as we never get any FOTA updates.
It does eventually come back at times..most probably when you use the Device mgr. So at those times u can delete it again...
Deleting this file will not affect your phone...I tested and using my N73 without any prob..

Adobe Flash/Flash Lite in Mobile phones? All questions answered!

1. What is flash?

Flash is a major web technology made & developed by Adobe Inc., that enable interactive elements like video streaming, flash games, etc. in the web. It is propertiary, means that the technology is closed and only Adobe can control the source code.

2. What are the kinds of flash?

There are 2 kinds of flash. Flash Lite that is on low to mid-end nokia & se feature phones/smartphones.
Standard flash in pc and high-end phones like in n900 & satio.


3. What is their difference?

Flash lite is the 'mini' version of flash that is used on mobile phones. Previous versions of Flash Lite supports .swf files while the newest version, 3.1 can play.flv files on the browser. Flash lite 3.1 is installed in new Nokia smartphones like 5800, N96, 5230 etc. S40 phones support either flash lite 2.0 or 3.0, but neither can play videos because of S40 limitations. Flash lite is widely used in making animated wallpapers, flash games/applications and it works on your web browser like displaying flash advertisements.

4. What the deal about flash?

If you are a pc user,you may miss the lack of flash in your phone. Games in facebook or in y8 runs only with flash.

5. Is there an alternative to it?

Thankfully, yes. HTML5 is the next generation technology that is able to stream videos, and it is open source.

6. What is the deal with flash being closed?

Most technology in the web today is open standard , like Java, Ajax, SVG and HTML. Flash is only the remaining technology that a single corporation controls.

7. What is Apple take on flash?

Who haven't heard the iphone. Adobe and Apple had a long troublesome battle regarding flash on the iphone/ipad. iPhone doesn't have flash and Adobe is accusing Apple of withholding flash on it. Apple responds that flash is a battery hog, an old and closed technology, and they pushing HTML5 as a flash alternative and a web standard.

8. What are the major issues of flash?

If you happen to use a mac, you will understand apple. In mobile phones, Flash is very limited to hardware. Flash is resource hog and it generally slows down your web browser. It is crash prone and there are issues in security. In Satio, playing a youtube video will display ''low memory'' and can crash the browser. Fortunately, in N900, flash implementation is smooth.

9. How does Adobe respond?

Adobe will release Flash 10.1, that supposedly address the issue (now now in Beta 3.) It will reportedly take advantage hardware acceleration in smartphones and have a tighter security.

10. So can I install flash in my china phone?

No, and it never will. Most flash-capable phones are either feature phones & smartphones and have issues. So, thinking of downloading standard flash plug-in in your 6300 is a waste of time. HTC will release a slew of Android smartphones that is fully flash compatible. So buy one, instead.

11. So how about the iphone and the ipad?

Sadly, guys, analysing Stevie's comments, flash will never happen in iPhone OS. But, iphone owners didn't have flash for 3 years, why bother?

12. Can I still enjoy flash?

Opera Mobile and Skyfire have a native support flash. But the implementation varies and you need a smartphone.

13. How can I enjoy Youtube, what about Farmville!?

You don't need flash to watch youtube, there is a mobile version that is perfectly capable on your laughing baby fix. For farmville, sorry.

Want to Re-cover Deleted Text Messages

For them who accidently deleted their important sms. i found a new trick! trick to read deleted sms..this is very simple and 100% working.. So heres the trick.

Required utility:
you will need X-plore

Procedure:


Step 1) Open X-plore

Step 2) Select drive C: or D: depending on the memory in which the Sms messages have been saved.


Step 3) For example u selected c: , Then open "system" folder.



step 4) Then in "system" folder open "mail" folder.



step 5) Then in this folder u will see different folders (eg 0010001_s) and certain files (eg 00100000). These files are the actual messages. Browse through every folder and open all files till u get the sms u are looking for.


Step 6) For opening the files don't choose options>file>open as it will show format not supported rather choose options>file>hex/text viewer. By selecting the "Hex/ text viewer" u ll be able to open and read the deleted SMS message.

Now u can read SMS in Mail folders

What exactly am I updating?

You are downloading a PC application that helps you update your Nokia mobile device's operating software (also known as device firmware).

Nokia device firmware is the software that is embedded in the memory of your device, and includes applications such as the calendar and phonebook. This is similar to the operating system software on your PC. The update consists of new features, applications, and performance improvements to the software.

User data such as contacts, photos, messages, and add-on applications such as Java games or Symbian applications are not part of the device firmware.

In some Nokia device models, user data – such as contacts and pictures – will be deleted during the software update. It is therefore strongly recommended that you make a back-up of your data before updating your Nokia device firmware to prevent these files being lost.

When you perform the update, and your Nokia device requires a data backup, the Nokia Software Updater will instruct you when to perform a back-up of your data.

Note: Nokia device firmware cannot be downgraded. Once you have upgraded your device, you will not be able to restore to the earlier version.
